Self-Adhesive Aluminium Vapour Barrier – StrataShield
Self-adhesive aluminium vapour barrier by StrataShield, is a cold-applied, self-adhesive bituminous air and vapour barrier which is saturated and coated with high quality SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) modified bitumen. It has an integrated aluminium foil layer, a glass fibre reinforcement and is finished on the underside with a removable siliconised film.
Typical use StrataShield SA ALU VB is designed for use as a high performance air and vapour barrier, and is ideal for use on either metal profiled or plywood decking and in areas prone to increased temperatures and moisture levels (e.g. factories, swimming pools, gyms. StrataShield Self-Adhesive Aluminium Vapour Barrier should be used as part of a multi-layer built-up roofing system.
Features & benefits
- Cold-applied, self-adhesive application
- Ideal for flame-free installations
- Steam sealing technology
- Walkable and puncture proof
- Excellent tear strength resistance
- Forms an airtight layer
- Resistant to chemicals and aging

Substrate preparation In order to achieve a sufficient bond, the substrate should be dry, free of oil, fat and dust and other impurities. Before applying the StrataShield SA ALU VB membrane ensure that the substrate surface is primed using StrataPrime SA. The primer should be allowed to dry before application of the membrane commences.
StrataPrime
StrataPrime SA is a roller applied synthetic primer ideal for use before installing self-adhesive waterproofing membranes. It has a quick-dry formulation and offers economical coverage on a range of substrates.
Features & benefits
- Rapid drying formulation
- Easy to install
- Compatible with a range of substrates
Mixing & application guidelines
Apply StrataPrime SA with a brush or roller, ensuring an even coat with no pooling. Leave the primer to dry for approximately 15 minutes prior to the application of any subsequent products. Two coats may be required on very porous substrates and the product may need to be reapplied if the upper surface becomes contaminated or if left exposed for more than 4 hours before applying the subsequent membrane.
