What Tools Do I Need?

With this cartridge size a standard 400ml size mastic caulk gun is all you need to inject the cream with. Do not get the small size applicator as the cartridge will not fit. Definitely 400ml size.

Do I Need Other Tools?

You need an SDS Hammer Drill and a 12mm SDS Plus Drill bit. It has to specifically be 12mm diameter to ensure the correct volume of cream is being injected. The drill bit should be sufficiently long enough to get to the back of the drill hole. Most commonly, 300mm long for standard cavity walls and 9″ solid walls.

You will need a vacuum or hole clearance brush to remove brick dust from the drilled holes.

An extension nozzle comes with your order but a Stanley knife to open the top of the cartridge is also needed.

You should also wear the appropriate PPE wear such as protective goggles, gloves and clothing and have some paper towel or clothes to hand to clear up any spillage.

How far does a cartridge go?

There are variables to coverage rates. Firstly, it all depends on how deep the drill holes are as the deeper they are the more cream you have to inject. Secondly different types of host mortar, brick, stone, etc can be variable in their porosity and soak up a lot of chemical as its applied.

The manufacturers guidance documents set out the drill hole centres and the depth you drill to according to the type of wall you have.

How does it work?

The cream is an emulsion based silicone that on contact with moisture in a wall forms a liner within the pores of the cement based mortar. After a curing period of between 2 – 6 weeks, the liner has formed a water repellent barrier that ground water cannot pass through.

Is it guaranteed to work?

The chemical is independently tested and accredited and proven to do what it is intended to do. Without doubt, yes, it is guaranteed to work! What fails is mis-diagnosis of the damp or incorrect application of the product.

Does it smell and is it harmful?

It is almost completely odourless and is water based meaning it is not corrosive however, it is always advisable to wear protective PPE and have some clean paper towel or wipes to hand.

Does it work immediately?

This is often a misunderstood point. The chemical cannot possibly work immediately. It goes through a curing process and this is largely determined by the extent of damp, and nature of host material injected as to how long the cure process is but typically, by 6 – 8 weeks it has fully cured. What is overlooked is that although no damp will travel up the wall beyond the new DPC, the wall itself above the DPC will still be damp and be going through its own drying out process. This process we know can take as much as 1 month per 1 inch, (25mm), the thickness of wall. For example, a very damp 9″, (225mm), thick wall can take up to 9 months to fully dry down.

How far apart are the drill holes from each other?

No farther apart than 120mm is the standard however, 100mm is the suggested distance or even as little as 75mm apart for non uniform stone construction type materials to ensure a good volume of cream is injected to do the job.

Does it stain?

It can do. If for instance you dropped some chemical on a wood laminate floor and left it unnoticed, it can leave a residue that is difficult to get out. It can leave a stain on glass too. We suggest the working area is protected with protection board or a polythene sheet.

Can I get a guarantee?

There are two types of guarantee. A product guarantee which will guarantee the product in the form it is supplied in. Once the product is opened and applied, this needs to be a workmanship guarantee as the long term success of the product is based on the correct application methods being followed and which, ideally is by an accredited specialist contractor.
